Just a few more projects...
I got this lamp at a garage sale a few weeks ago. There was just something about it.... The doiley lampshade... the adorable picher base.... I might switch a different shade with the base and use this one somewhere else... but I'll see.
After all... I've spent $2 in worse places, right?! :o) lol

Goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo.....

They have a lot of new stuff too! The gorilla complex has been completely re-done. Whey have an orangutan building that was pretty cool. They have a new butterfly house coming soon too! :o)
The aquarium is SO cool! I LOVE the aquarium! Actually, a word to the wise... If you're planning on popping the question any time soon... The part where you walk through the tunnel would be SUCH a cool place! "You're the only fish in the sea for me." Awwww.... Let me know how it works out for you! :o) lol

Anyhoo... Just thought I'd let you know what I've been up to! :o)

Still Workin'!
Still working away on the corner cabinet! I SO wish I had pictures! I'm creating away, but you can't see it! *Sigh* Soon... Pictures... Soon...
But guess what?!? The main structure is DONE!!! Yay! I even got the first coat of navy on it. Just need to put in 2 more shelves and wainscoting on the bottom. Then painting, painting, painting and I'm done!!! I can't wait! So far I've spent.... Let's see... $2 on the cabinet door... And the paint! That's it? Yeah! Cool! I just realized that! I've done it all out of "stuff" that we have around here. Old doors... A "landfill piano" that we tore apart. (Landfill Piano is what we "junkers" affectionately call those upright pianos. They say that they're not worth the gas to take them to the dump. Now I beg to differ! They have the BEST old wood! Tear 'em apart! This one was here when we moved in and we already had one of our own which had sentimental value) And all that kinda stuff! Too cool! I'll bet by the time I'm done, it'll cost us less than $20! Yeah! I need pictures!!! :o)
Oh! And we ended up in Omaha again. Went to a NEW salvage yard and.... I LOVE THIS ONE! Only I want to go back when it's warm! :o) lol It's all outside and it was COLD! Besides that, I forgot my coat! Brrrr....
We got a small cabinet that will fit perfectly between the refrig and the oven. We also got the MOST ADORABLE little drawer thing. It's got 3 drawers and looked so forlorn sitting there. As soon as I saw it, I got that feeling. You know that feeling? The one where you know you just HAVE to have it?!? You know it may be silly... Not make sense... Look pathetic... But hey! You want it! Yeah... It gets me every time!!!
Anyway... Neither one had a price on them, so off we went to find the guy. We tracked him down and asked...
Us: "Hey! How much is this little cabinet?" (We started with that first one.)
The Guy: "Well... Ummm.... How about $15?"
Us: "Okay! We'll take it... How about this one?" (Pointing to the 2nd one)
The Guy: "How about $25 for both?"
Us: "Yeah!!!" (Okay... Breathe! Stop acting so excited!!!)
SCORE!!!! It's DARLING!!! Love 'em!
Will post pics when I can! :o) Really!
Also stopped at a thrift store and picked up a set of 4 stools. They are so darling! I mean... They're not darling now, but they will be! We're going to do a craft fair this spring so... I picked up the 4 of them for 35.00 and I figure if I repaint them (They're a nasty green) and purdy them up, I can sell each for that amount! Wouldn't that be nifty? We'll see!
Anyhoo... It's late and I really should go clean up my mess in the kitchen before I head to bed and dream of hammers, paint brushes and my beloved saw! (Have I mentioned that I love my new saw?!?)
Blessings,
~Nicole

More Progress!
Let's start with yesterday!
We went to Omaha... Scoured Goodwill's... AND... I got a Radial Arm Saw, baby! I probably wouldn't have gotten it, except a friend suggested that I should. I'm so glad that I did! I used it today and I LOVE it!!! THANK YOU!!! :o) It's going to be really nice!
I so desperately wanted to go to the two salvage yards in North Omaha... But we lost track of the time and missed it! *Humph* I was so bummed!!! To finish our escapade, we went to Menard's and got wainscoting and some trim. It's going to be really terrific in there when I'm done! Can't wait to post pics!
So that brings me to today... It took me about 1 1/2 hours to saw through our floorboards! "Why did it take so long to cut through 18 inches of trim?!" you ask.
Okay... So we start with 8 inch floorboards. I think, "Hey.. No problem! I'll just use our jig-saw. (Bad Idea) Let me just say this... Our jig-saw is a terrifying cross between a jack-hammer and a chain-saw! SCARY!!! I made it through about an inch of floorboard... and 2 jig-saw blades when I decided that it was time to stop and figure something else out! (Good Idea) So... I considered just using my teeth, but I refrained. After all, I survived braces, I don't want to loose my nice teeth. But, 1 1/2 hours later... After using a mix of drills and handsaws... I finally got the floorboard off! And believe it or not, it looks good! The remaining floorboard that is supposed to stay looks intact and the "cut" is actually straight! Looks like I used the right tools. :o)
Then I got the doors for the back mitered. I LOVE MY NEW RADIAL ARM SAW! (Did I already mention that???) 45 degree angles, baby. I was puzzling how I would do that since our circular saw is scary too. Though not quite as scary as our jack-hammer-chainsaw-jigsaw. So that's as far as I got. I need to do some electrical stuff before I move on to more cutting/nailing/screwing/cutting/cutting/more cutting... Did I mention that I love my new saw?!?
Anyhoo... I'm off to bed... Hopefully I'll have some more progress to report tomorrow!
